Day 17: toe-tapping horror!

Look at this, a twofer! A horror entry and a musical entry! Who sez I don’t treat you right, baby?

Anyways, some time ago I was contacted by Kate Ferris, a musician who had recently completed as Artist in the Schools residency. Being, obviously, a huge fan of Husk, she and her Grade 6 class wrote a song about (of course) zombies, sung to the tune of Pharrell William’s ditty “Happy.”

And, what, you think I wouldn’t play it here?

Below is the song for your listening pleasure, plus lyrics. My thanks and appreciation go out to Kate and the kids of École Dugald School, you made my day.

ANNND…since this is musical moment as well, it behooves me to insert said pop opus into the line-up in my ongoing Music to Love Zombies By, or, music to read Husk by, if you must be precise. Sadly, I’m not sure this song would really fit in anywhere during a reading of Husk, so let’s call this the song that plays at the end of the credits. Maybe read the publisher information page at the same time.

And without further ado…

ZOMBIES

Written by the Gr.6 Manon class at École Dugald School during a songwriting Artists in the Schools residency with artist Kate Ferris – March 24-28, 2014

BubStyle: “Piggyback” (Written to an existing tune)
Tune: Chorus of “Happy” – Pharrell Williams
Instrumentation: Guitar
Key: C

Chorus:

Because we’re zombies . . .
Limp along if you feel the beast inside of you –
Because we’re zombies . . .
We’re ugly, slow and dumb, but ready to kill you
Because we’re zombies . . .
If we bite you anywhere then you’ll definitely die
Because we’re zombies . . .
If you become one of us, better kiss your flesh goodbye
Because we’re zombies . . .
We’re not afraid of anything but a bullet to the head
Because we’re zombies . . .
Now we rule the world, ‘cause the humans are all dead.

Zombies, zombies, zombies, zombies . . .
Zombies, zombies, zombies, zombies . . .
Zombies, zombies, zombies, zombies . . .
(Words fade down as grunting gets louder; finally only grunts)

zombie_headphonesDuring October, I’m posting specifically on horror-related topics. I don’t know why, exactly. I feel like the month is going somewhere…
